As I mentioned in recent days, this is the first time the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open is being played in Brussels, after nine years in Antwerp.
Therefore, we didn’t know what the playing conditions would be like.
Well, I’ve now gathered data from the 14 matches played so far, 12 from the qualies and 2 from the main draw.
Across more than 1,300 points on first serve, players have won 75.7% of them, what is a very high figure.
We still can’t draw definitive conclusions given the limited sample size and I doubt this percentage will hold, but it certainly suggests that the courts are on the fast side.
I’ve also watched portions of todays matches, and visually it really does look quick.
